August First

01 Aug 2013

Well, it's August First again. That's a significant date, but it might be significant for the last time.

You see, August First is the day when I mentally mark summer as "over" and decide that school has started again. While classes may not start for another 26 days this year, I happen to be in charge of a fair number of extracurricular activities. It turns out that they all need a good bit of preparation work over the summer to make sure that they actually run when classes start (or when orientation starts a week earlier) and don't fall flat on their faces. Projects need to move from "in progress" to "done." And all of this work has to happen in the next 26 days.

Did I mention I also have a full-time job?

And it's not like I haven't been doing things all summer. 8-hour and 9-hour workdays leave plenty of time for extracurricular coding, and a lot of my free time this summer has gone towards getting APIs@CMU ready to go. It's nearly there, but there's still a bunch of work to do.

But now summer break is over. CMU sleep schedules start becoming the norm. It's 02:40 local time right now and I'm just now starting to consider sleep. The 2013-2014 academic year is my senior year. It's shaping up to be a victory lap or sorts. It's going to be fantastic.

And it starts today.
